Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alois K. Schlarb

Speech Title: Challenges and opportunities of 3D-printing for sustainable lightweight design in composite material

Professor Schlarb currently holds the Chair of Composite Engineering (CCe) at the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK), Germany. He studied mechanical engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern, specializing in production engineering and company organization. After his graduation in 1984 he relocated to the University of Kassel, working as scientific assistant to Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. e.h. Ehrenstein. He was awarded a doctorate in 1989 for his thesis on polymer processing. From 1988 until 1989 he was also head engineer at the university’s Institut fuer Werkstofftechnik. In the following 13 years Professor Schlarb held different positions in the industry, e.g. the polymer laboratory of BASF SE, Germany, as material scientist and project manager researching composites, last as Vice President and head of marketing, research and development with B. Braun Medical AG, Switzerland. In November 2002 Alois Schlarb was appointed to a full professorship for "Composite Materials" at the TUK and from 2002 to 2008 Chief Executive Officer of the Institut für Verbundwerkstoffe GmbH. Since 2018 Professor Schlarb also holds a visiting professorship at Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Qingdao, PR China. Professor Schlarb served as Spokesman of the Scientific Alliance of Polymer Technology (WAK) from 2009 - 2015 and as President of the Society for the Advancement of Materials and Processing Engineering SAMPE Deutschland e.V. from 2003 - 2015. He is member of the editorial boards for the Journal of Composite Materials, and Strain - International Journal for Experimental Mechanics, SAMPE-Journal, and the Journal of Polymer Technology.
He has given more than 200 presentations, has authored or co-authored more than 100 journal papers, edited or authored or co-authored more than 50 book chapters or books, and is listed in more than 50 patent applications as inventor.
The focus of his research activities is on process-structure-property-relations and tribology of polymer based hybrid materials.


Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohammed Alias Yusof

Speech Title: Technical Talk on 'Blast resistant Materials : Concrete and Glass

Ir. Dr. Mohammed Alias Yusof is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional, Malaysia. He graduated with B. Eng (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2002, a MSc. degree in Integrated Construction Project Management from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in 2005 and PhD degree in Civil Engineering from Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia in 2013. He is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineer Malaysia. His main research interests are in the blast resistant materials such as concrete, glass, and also military and commercial explosives. He has developed a blast resistant concrete and had obtained the patent for the blast resistant concrete panel from Intellectual Properties Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) in 2016. He is knowledgeable in commercial and military explosives and had attended several courses in Explosives Engineering at Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University, United Kingdom, and also at Wessex Institute of Technology, United Kingdom. In 2017, he has been awarded an honorary scientist by Venus International Foundation, Chennai, India for his valuable contribution in the field of blast resistant materials and also explosives.

Prof. Kazuaki Nakane

Speech Title: Material structure image analysis method via homology concept

Professor Kazuaki Nakane is a guest professor in the Graduate School of Medicine. At the same time, he is a vice president and founder of APSAM-imaging inc. He graduated mathematical department of Nagoya Univ. (1988) and got the doctor degree (Ph.D.) at the Kanazawa Univ. (1997). He had studied Probably theory, Partial differential equations and Numerical theory. He elucidated the cause of self-excited vibration that occurred when the tape was peeled off, mathematically. He gave a talk about this in Oxford university (1998). He was a lecturer in Osaka institute of Technology (1997-2008), and a guest associate professor in the faculty of medicine in Osaka university (2008-2016). He is developing a new image analyzing method for tissue (structure) image, such as cancer tissue, fracture surface, silicon gel and so on. He got several best paper awards in the international conference. NEDO(New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) honored this innovation and JST (Japan Science and Technology Agency) gave a fund START (Program for Creating STart-ups from Advanced Research and Technology). Thanks to this fund, he founded a start-up company (2019). This method had already patented in US, JP, UK etc. Recently he got President's Award Silver from JSMP (Japan Society of Medical Physics) (2019). He was invited lecture in ECP2018 (the European Society of Pathology, for colon cancer tissue analysis) and will be give a talk in ECC (European Congress of Cytology 2020, for Respiratory cancer).
